We are True Tribe!
True Tribe is owned by Rebekah and Kevin Baugh. We are both
Registered Nurses and we own this 45-acre homestead in the beautiful
Florida panhandle.
Kevin has over 30 years of broad nursing
experience, including serving as an Army Combat Medic, flight nurse
for both hospitals and evacuation zones, as well as currently
working as a civilian nurse. Rebekah
started her nursing career after finding herself as a single mom
needing a career. While studying nursing, she found that she loved
working with senior citizens and geriatric care became a passion
with her. Both of us are trauma certified nurses and now work by
contract. During COVID, we realized that the health care system has
changed drastically and felt a call to provide a place of safety and
sustenance for our family. Our family happens to include some
wonderful friends and that is where the True Tribe idea came along.
God provided this beautiful piece of land for us to purchase in
2022. Financing the land as well as our personal home tapped us out
as far as borrowing power. We have researched some financing options
and would like to be able to build this campground as we can pay for
it. Our dream is to provide a safe space for visitors as well as a
meeting place for fellow homesteaders and youth to be able to
connect with nature.
The Campground
Our campground will be located on I-10 exit 85. The entrance is only 4 miles from the interstate with easy access.
The rates for RV sites and camping are quite high in our area as it is a
tourist area and are often fully booked during the spring and summer
months.
Our goal is to share this dream with a select number of people by
providing accommodations for about 30 RVs. Our plan includes 10
cabins and primitive camping along our creek. We have 30 acres
committed to this project that we were able to finance. The land
does not have any infrastructure and we are raising money as we go.
Our goal is to open in the Spring of 2026.We are in the building process. This page is to invite you to join us along that journey. True Tribe Camping represents the idea that family is who stands with you, that home is where your Tribe is, and that both new adventures and sacred traditions are necessary to make life meaningful!
The Area
45 miles northeast of Destin in the Florida
Panhandle, DeFuniak Springs offers a relaxed, small-town atmosphere
and a chance to step back in time with hundreds of historic homes
and buildings. Lake DeFuniak, which is a 40 acre natural,
spring-fed lake located in the heart of town, is one of only two
perfectly circular lakes in the world! Family members of all ages will want to take a drive
to Ponce de Leon Springs State Park, just 15 minutes away, to swim
in the freshwater springs, picnic, fish, and explore the nature
trails. For more freshwater fun, nearby Vortex Springs offers scuba
and cave diving, and water park activities. We also have a local
winery - Chautauqua Vineyards and Winery - which produces all its products on site.
